Book Donations at WPS:
*
“Happy Birthday Club” is a way for you to help the WPS Library add quality library bound titles to our collection.  A $20.00 donation to the library provides the opportunity for you to choose a title that has special meaning for your child.  That title is then ordered by the librarian from Bound to Stay Bound books.  Your child will be the first to check out the book to share with you.  The book will contain a bookplate that includes a personal message from you honoring your child.  You also receive a picture of your child with the book as a keepsake.  This is a great way to honor your child while providing a quality book that other children will enjoy for years to come.

*
Book donations are accepted by the library during specific times of the year.  For example, during our Book Swap, as a community service project for the Library Club or other school organization, or when in need of a specific author or series.  Currently, we are not accepting paperback book donations.  The WPS library is concentrating on adding quality hard back titles to our collection that are age appropriate for our patrons. Special WPS Library Events needing Volunteers:

*
Scholastic Book Fair:  Two book fairs are held during the school year in an effort to generate funding for the library. The fair in the fall contains a larger inventory, while the spring fair is smaller.  Both events need volunteers to help students and families shop, operate the cash registers, and guide younger students up to the fair located in the mezzanine.  We also schedule before and after school shopping hours for families and need volunteers for these times. The profit from these events includes 25% cash and additional shopping points to be used toward items in the Scholastic Instructional Catalog which includes library bound books, classroom equipment and library furniture.

*
School-Wide Book Swap:  Students donate gently used books that they are willing to trade with other students.  Books are collected a couple of weeks before the event.  Each donation includes a form, provided by the library, to list their name, grade level, teacher’s name and number of books donated. The form also includes a place for a parent to sign granting permission for the donation.  When the students attend the event, they may select up to the number of books they donated, to keep.  At the end of the day, any student may purchase left over books for $.50 each or 3 for $1.00. Any left over books are later donated to the “Friends of the Library” sale at the public library.

*
National Children’s Book Week:  During National Children’s Book Week in the fall, volunteers are needed as guest readers in the library and classrooms.  A different event to encourage reading is planned each day that week.  Volunteers are able to help plan and carry out the events/contests
